Illustrative assumptions — replace with your actual quotations and local costs.
The example values are not machine prices, industry averages or R.N. quotations.
Your assumptions
01Initial investment
One-time costs to set up the unit.
From a written quotation for your required capacity and shapes.
Power connection, wiring, civil work, dryers or racks not in the machine price.
Licences, trial production, initial packaging design, etc.
Cash for raw material, packaging stock and credit to buyers before sales are collected.
02Production
Rated capacity is not real output — utilisation and wastage are applied.
The manufacturer’s rated output for your shape.
Share of rated output actually achieved while running (changeovers, stoppages, cleaning).
Output lost as broken pieces, rejects and start-up waste.
03Selling and revenue
Below 100 % when demand is lower than what the plant can make.
Your net price to the buyer, after distributor/retailer margins and discounts.
04Variable costs
Costs that rise with output.
Per kg PRODUCED — wasted output consumes raw material too.
Per kg sold.
Per kg produced.
Per kg sold.
05Fixed monthly costs
Including replacement inserts and die servicing.
Office, insurance, testing, marketing, admin.
06Financing and accounting
Set to 0 if you are not borrowing.
A simplified flat estimate on positive profit — not tax advice. Your actual tax depends on your business structure.
Straight-line, on machine + installation + electrical setup.

How these figures are calculated
- EBITDA
- Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation: revenue minus operating expenses (materials, packaging, power, transport, labour, rent, maintenance and other running costs). Loan repayments, interest, tax and depreciation are not deducted.
- Cash profit
- EBITDA minus loan interest and principal (the EMI), estimated tax, and any cash tied up in unsold stock. Depreciation is not deducted because it is not a cash payment.
- Break-even price
- The selling price per kg at which EBITDA is zero at your current sales volume.
- Break-even volume
- Fixed monthly costs ÷ contribution per kg, where contribution = selling price − variable cost per kg sold (material and power grossed up for wastage, plus packaging and transport).
- Return on investment
- Annual net profit (after interest, depreciation if included, and estimated tax) ÷ total initial investment.
- Payback
- Project: months for after-tax operating cash flow to repay the total investment. Own funds: months for cash after EMI and tax to repay the money you put in yourself, calculated month by month as the loan is repaid.
